| Originally a small picturesque fishing village on the Amalfi coast, today it is a major international tourist centre thanks to its modern accommodation facilities, fine beaches and good restaurants. A pyramid of houses fall from the Lattari mountains. To go trough the village there is only one little street and stairs. In front of Positano, the Galli island, residence of the sirens, mythological figure half women half fish. To visit, the church of Saint Mary Assunta, with its big dome with ceramic mosaics. The fashion, exported all over the world, is inspired by the colours of the the flowers that can be found in the area. This dramatically beautiful town clinging to the cliff face as if about to cascade into the turquoise waters below, has become synonymous with beach fashion. Positano’s elegant shop windows are full of displays of brightly coloured robes, bikinis, bags, and Bermuda shorts all made in cool linen, gauze and cotton. Positano is now home not only to skilled tailors but also to master cobblers, indeed, this is the place where to abandon your shoes and replace them with a pair of hand crafted sandals, made to measure whilst you wait. Positano is also the perfect spot to pick up that special coral cameo. |
